HOW TO USE WHATSAPP

WhatsApp is a free, easy-to-use messaging application for your smartphone, which allows you to communicate one-on-one and in groups with other WhatsApp users. It’s a great way to communicate with your neighbours and fellow organizers to coordinate your activities and build support for one another.

To Install WhatsApp on your phone, follow these steps

For those with an Android smartphone (ex. Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG, etc):

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet, using either wifi or data
  2. Go to the ‘Play Store’ on your phone
  3. Search ‘WhatsApp’ in the search bar
  4. Tap ‘Install’, then ‘Accept’, which will begin the download process
  5. Once the download is done, tap ‘Open’ to open up the app
  6. Follow the steps that the app will prompt, including agreeing to the Terms of Service, inputting your phone number, and inputting your chosen profile name
  7. You’re ready to go! Let’s organize!

For those with an iPhone smartphone:

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet, using either wifi or data
  2. Go to the ‘App Store’ on your phone
  3. Search ‘WhatsApp’ in the search bar
  4. Tap ‘Install’, then ‘Accept’, which will begin the download process
  5. Once the download is done, tap ‘Open’ to open up the app
  6. Follow the steps that the app will prompt, including agreeing to the Terms of Service, inputting your phone number, and inputting your chosen profile name
  7. You’re ready to go! Let’s organize!

Now that you have WhatsApp

Now it’s time to build up your contacts list with other WhatsApp users, so you can connect with others, including by creating group chats, where more than one person can interact to share important information, share questions, etc

For those using an Android smartphone

  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Tap on the ‘Chats’ tab
  3. Tap the Chat icon in the bottom right corner (looks like a square speech bubble)
  4. Tap ‘New Contact’ and input your contact’s information
  5. Note: if you currently have contacts in your phone who already use WhatsApp, their contacts should automatically show up for you after tapping the New Chats icon, provided that you allowed the app to access your phone contacts during the set-up process

For those using an iPhone smartphone

  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Tap on the ‘Chats’ tab
  3. Tap the New Chats icon in the top right corner (looks like a pencil with a pad)
  4. Tap ‘New contact’ and input your contact’s information
  5. Note: if you currently have contacts in your phone who already use WhatsApp, their contacts should automatically show up for you after tapping the New Chats icon, provided that you allowed the app to access your phone contacts during the set-up process

Once you have begun to build your contacts list, you can message individual users, and you can start group chats:

For those using an Android smartphone 

  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Tap on the ‘Chats’ tab
  3. Tap the Chat icon in the bottom right corner (looks like a square speech bubble)
  4. Tap ‘New Group’
  5. Select your Group Members from your Contacts, then tap the green arrow
  6. Input your chosen Group Subject line, then tap the green check mark when you’re finished
  7. Ready to Group Chat! Lets organize!

For those using an iPhone smartphone

  1. Open WhatsApp
  2. Tap on the ‘Chats’ tab
  3. Tap the New Chats icon in the top right corner (looks like a pencil with a pad)
  4. Tap ‘New Group’
  5. Select your Group Members from your Contacts, then tap ‘Next’
  6. Input your Group Subject line, then tap ‘Create’ when you’re finished
  7. Ready to Group Chat! Let’s organize!
